You’ll remember our garden photo contest last fall, for gardeners who rent their homes. Chef Jude won with the garden below.  He didn’t have a problem with the City, and I think he’s doing it again this year, but it seems that having a food garden facing on to the street can be a tricky proposition in Stratford. If the neighbours complain, you’re out of luck, because there’s a bylaw.

Now there’s a petition going around, put out by Kirby Tall, and a lot of people are signing. You can read the comments and sign it here: https://www.change.org/p/allow-stratford-residents-to-grow-their-own-food

Right now everyone is up to their necks in bindweed and worrying about tying up those tomatoes, but this seems like a good project for us to be pursuing over the winter. Anybody got a good idea about how we could work together to make sure that everyone has a chance at growing their own food?

If so, drop us a line at perthcountysustainability@gmail.com.
