Stratford and District Secondary School students were successful in 2020, when they participated at City Hall to ask for the declaration of a climate emergency.  They’ve been politically active since that time, and were back last week with some pretty tough words for City Council.

Representatives for the SDSS Eco Club Zach Kritzer, Ewan Mann, Rory Auster, and Leif Wahlquist spoke out against a lack of attention to climate initiatives in the 2025 budget, and encouraged Council to hire staffing support for the City’s Climate Change Manager. They made a strong case for the hire.

The four speakers gave a simple, clear speech that outlined the problems and pointed to solutions (see the video summary), and you’ll be happy to learn that Council listened. All but two councillors (Hunter & Biehn) voted for the position. Pretty impressive, SDSS!
