Saturday was the culmination of Truth and Reconciliation Week at the Falstaff Family Centre and ceremonies were led by Todd Torresan, also known as Chi Animikiikaa (Big Thunder), a member of the Oneida Nation.
Torresan led all-ages activities, including a Talking Circle with a Sacred Fire, Medicine Wheel teachings and storytelling, and a demonstration of sage and sweetgrass medicines, and offered traditional and medicinal tea.
Following the activities, Torresan led orange-clad Indigenous people and non-Indigenous allies from Huron and Perth Counties on the Walk to Remember Solidarity Walk through the streets of Stratford.
The Medicine Wheel Garden, planted on the FFC grounds in June 2021, represents the balance of the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of life and their connection to the natural world.
